What would you do or say?

I recently sent an email to the makers of my sons crib. The email should explain everything.

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to you in regards to your Storkcraft - Tuscany 4-in-1 Crib and the Storkcraft - Beatrice Dresser and Storage Unit. I purchased this combo from Walmart.com about a month before my son was born. Immediately I was displeased with the quality of the dresser. It was VERY time consuming to put together and practically fell apart over the next few weeks. At this point we cannot put much in it because the bottom falls out of the drawers. The quality is VERY poor, but this is not my pain concern. The crib is my main concern as it injured my son today. This makes about the fourth time he has gotten his leg caught between the bars. The bars are so flimsy, poorly made and just far enough part that he can get his leg in, but not back out. He had it caught above the knee. He was screaming out in pain, as I was in a panic trying to get his leg out. I have never been so displeased with a piece of furniture. My older son has a chest of drawers that cost roughly $80 and has lasted about 4 years. I purchased your dresser for MUCH more and it did not even last a DAY before it started to fall apart. As I said before however the crib is my main concern. Considering it injured my son. The outcome could have been MUCH worse. When I purchase a crib I expect my baby to be safe in it. Not so with yours. I expect you to take immediate action and take care of this situation in a proper manner. Thank you for your time.

Almost a week later I got the email back..........

Dear Ms. Chase, We are very sorry to hear that your baby’s leg keeps getting stuck between the bars, and we can understand how frustrating or frightening this can be. However, spacing of the decorative openings is not set by Stork Craft. Government and Industry Standards regulate the design and construction of the cribs manufactured in Canada and the United States. These regulatory requirements stipulate among other things, the dimensions and spacing. Therefore, we cannot alter the space between spindles of the rails and panels or alter the dimensions of the cribs. The intent behind the specifications regulated by the standards is to protect infants from life threatening or debilitating injuries. There are some crib designs that are made with solid end panels. However, bear in mind that the openings of the rails are the same spacing. Regarding your dresser, if drawers are falling from the tracks on the dresser, the solution is to tighten the cams and cam bolts of the complete unit. All dressers require a square frame to keep drawers in track. Attach the cams/cam bolts by going from one to the next, etc, partially tightening each one, then returning to the first one and continue to partially tighten each one, and continue this until all are tightened properly. Ö If faces of drawers are coming apart, the solution is to tighten cams and cam bolts of the unit to prevent faces from falling. To properly attach cams and cam bolts, our suggestion is to screw the cam bolt to the face of every drawer until you cannot see any thread. Then, introduce the cam bolt to the side of the drawer for you to see it inside of the cam’s hole. You will notice that the cam has a little arrow in it, so please introduce every cam with this arrow facing the screw. That is, facing the interior part of the drawer face to then tighten it to catch the cam bolt. Should you require parts for your chest of drawers, including cams and cam bolts, please provide the following information so that we may assess the warranty claim: Contact Information: •Your Name, Complete Shipping Address and Phone Number: Product Information: •Model # (include any symbol): •Country of Origin (where it was made – not in North America): •Date of Manufacture: •Purchase Date: •Part Name(s), Part Code(s), Description and Quantity: •Proof of Purchase: Please provide (note that we cannot accept e-mails over 4 MB each) Information for Chests can be found on the sticker label which is attached to the back panel of to the chest. Since the back panel(s) is reversible in the chest’s assembly, the sticker label may be facing inward. If this is the case, please remove the drawers to find the sticker label. Information may also be found on the outside of the box that your chest came in. If you cannot find the necessary information, please take clear pictures (up to 4 MB per e-mail) of the item and email them to us at parts@storkcraft.com. This will assist us in identifying your product. If you have further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

It seems to me they are not willing to help at all and just giving me the run around. I am not pleased with their customer service nor their furniture AT ALL! So what would you do or say? Please weigh in with a comment below. Thank you!

I would contact the Consumer Product Safety Commission and explain to them what is going on.

I am not impressed with the response. My question is "what is Walmart's return policy?" Has it been recent enough to return it? It should have been returned immediately since the dresser was so bad. The company is right about the distance of bars. You should be able to make it safer for your son, but it is sad that he keeps getting stuck. You should have told the company that you would be notifying others of how they handle this (or do not). Good Luck.

I would return it to walmart. If they don't want to take it back then I would try calling the company and ask for an exchange or for them to send you the parts for free.
Good luck.
